You can absolutely gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. The best way to lose body fat is through aerobic exercise - consistent aerobic exercise. The best way to gain lean body mass is through regular weight training. Some nutrition principals to follow is to eat several times a day, small frequent meals and make sure that each of those meals have a protein, a carbohydrate and an essential fat together with it. This way it will keep your metabolism up. You'll definitely burn more calories throughout the day and support lean body tissue.
